Lexis for Microsoft Office

Lexis for Microsoft Office is available on computers in the Library’s Computer Lab. It can also be downloaded at http://www.lexisnexis.com/lawschool
Lexis for Microsoft Office is an application that allows students and faculty to use Lexis while in a Microsoft document. Its features are designed to integrate legal research and writing by providing users access to Lexis, the Web, and specified user-created files while actively working on a Microsoft Word document . For example, via the App’s toolbar, one can generate clickable Lexis links for all the citations in a document as well as call up a current Shepard’s analysis for each case citation.

WestlawNext

WestlawNext, a new search platform from Westlaw with a powerful search engine, is available now at Hastings. Hastings is participating in the pre-release of WestlawNext to law schools. You will see an option to select WestlawNext on the top boarder of the Westlaw Welcome screen once you have signed on. It is not necessary to select a database before searching on WestlawNext. In web-searching fashion, simply type your search in the search box and WestlawNext will return results sorted by primary and secondary sources, as well as West Keycite reports for case citations. WestlawNext is designed to be easy to use and intuitive. You can use either the single searchbox or select the advanced search option. Feel free to stop by the reference desk and ask the reference librarian for a demonstration.
